In case you are in rush of booking your Christmas travels, I would like to point out one thing that may drive you crazy and ruin your holiday Alaska miles burning plan. 

I was looking to book a flight from Beijing to Toronto in January in Business class, as it only costs 50,000 Alaska miles one way, which is a phenomenal value, even with the hefty scam charges.

After filling up the form on Alaska air website, the search results disappointed me with nothing available in January, 2019. 

Finding the seat

Before I rush into an alternative date, I paid attention to the calendar view and noticed there are two types of results showing on the award calendar: “blank” or “not available.” From experience with Alaska website, I clicked on one of the blank dates on the schedule. I got the following results:

Viola, it has plenty of availability. 

So I have reported to Alaska’s social support team and seems they did not capture the essence of my message. So I decided to write a quick post in case anyone is “fooled” by Alaska’s website.
